About This Quilt

Back to the lace doilies. In March this year, Lunar Lace on Black and Pink emerged as a finished item. January’s piece, Lunar Lace on Purple, had had a zig-zag motif woven into the lacework of the doily; now in March the radiating circles spoke so powerfully from the lace moon. My stitchwork in the quilting responded.

I love the way the silver moon image is caught and mirrored in the black night sky through my quilting. It was very satisfying to achieve that effect.

The use of pink as a complement to the blackness came instinctively. It works for me.

I seem to have gotten lost in my spatial awareness working within all this circular movement. Maybe I suffered an unconscious dizzy spell. My standard rectangular framing shape has become a little topsy-turvy. Ah well – the Amish makers of textile art always made sure there was an act of deliberate mis-stitching to avoid perfection. They were intent on not daring to match the perfection of the Good Lord’s creation. Let’s just say I am following in their tradition.

My Lunar Lace on Black and Pink piece
measures 29.5” x 35.5”.
